Is Globe Valve Always The Right Choice

Time: 8-August 2025 | Source: I-FLOW| Share

Globe valves are great when you need fine control of fluid flow, but like any tool, they’re not perfect for every job. Before you go ahead and install one, let’s walk through a few reasons why a globe valve might not be your best pick.

1.They Waste Pressure

Globe valves don’t let fluid pass through in a straight line. Instead, the flow changes direction, which causes pressure to drop. So if your system depends on pressure efficiency, this might be a dealbreaker.

2.More Flow Resistance

Because of how they're built, globe valves create a lot of flow resistance. This isn't ideal in systems where you want the fluid to move freely and quickly.

3.They’re Heavy and Take Up Space

Compared to ball or gate valves, globe valves are larger and heavier, which means they need more room—and more support if you're installing them in elevated piping systems.

4.They’re Costlier

You’ll likely spend more money on globe valves—not just to buy them but also to maintain them over time. Their internal parts can wear down, especially if you’re throttling the valve frequently.

5.Not Great for Slurry or Dirty Fluids

If your fluid isn’t clean—say it contains dirt, sediment, or thick particles—globe valves might struggle. Their tight design can clog up, leading to performance issues or damage.

Final Thoughts

Globe valves are reliable and offer great throttling precision—but they come with trade-offs. Consider your system’s pressure, flow needs, space constraints, and fluid characteristics before choosing a globe valve.

How Three Port Plug Valves Control and Distribute Fluid Flow

3-way plug valves allow operators to redirect or combine flow within a single valve body. By rotating the plug, the valve can switch flow direction, isolate lines, or mix fluids depending on system design.
